Homelessness Week 2021

In Australia, there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night.

The 1st to the 7th of August will be dedicated to homelessness week, a campaign that aims to raise awareness on the impact of homelessness and shine a light on the hidden issues facing some of Australia’s most vulnerable.

National and local community events will take place to emphasise the importance of housing as a solution and educating communities on how they can make a difference.

This year homelessness week will focus on the devastating impact of COVID-19 on Australia’s homeless population including women who are fleeing domestic and family violence, the single biggest cause of homelessness in Australia.

We were joined on The Daily by the chair of Homelessness Australia, Jenny Smith, who told 2ser’s, Tina Quinn, why homelessness week 2021 is different.
