How COVID Impacts Australian Researchers

Australian Scientists have been working harder now more than ever with significant pressure placed on them during this pandemic. Aside from working on a solution to COVID-19, researchers are dealing with long-lasting impacts on their careers. Currently, 57% on contracts are left with uncertainty for their future in the scientific field once their contract ends. The 83% of researchers employed by universities are facing unemployment as universities are struggling even more during these times. Organisations have stopped hiring and institutions that are funding the salaries of researchers are letting them go. 2SER was joined by Yee Lian Chew from the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at University of Wollongong.
