How useful are protein powders and sports supplements

Protein powders, supplements, and energy gels sound all too familiar in the world of sports, athletes and the gym. Protein powder helps build and repair muscle, and energy gels boost the body’s energy in a short amount of time. But does our body need all of this, and is food simply the answer? And are macro supplements filled with ingredients we should avoid? Dr Patrice Jones is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Genetics, Epigenetics and Exercise group at the Institute for Health and Sport from Victoria University and joined the Monday Daily.
