India Strips Kashmir Statehood

On August 5th 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government passed a bill that has stripped Indian Kashmir of its statehood and its special status. Since the bill passed, the disputed region between India and Pakistan has been in government lockdown, with phone and internet services cut and a large paramilitary presence enforcing a strict curfew. The Daily was joined by Associate Professor Peter from the University of Adelaide to share his insight into the issue
