Indian Currency Ban: What Does This Mean For The Countries Economy?

Last month in India Prime Minister Narendra Modi banned the two largest bills of 500 and 1,000 rupees. The move has been labelled as highly disruptive especially considering 78 percent of financial transactions are done in cash. Why did the government introduce the ban? How will it impact the country’s economy? The Daily was joined by Professor of economics and director of the Centre for Economic Policy and Modelling at the South Pacific University to discuss these issues under what is being called the Indian Cash Crisis is Dr Partha Gangopadhyay the Professor of economics and director of the Centre for Economic Policy and Modelling at the South Pacific University.
