Interview With An Artist – Gemma Rasdall

Each Thursday at 11:45am we profile an Australian artist – be they a sculptor, painter, drawer, weaver – someone working in the creative sphere.

Ever wanted to throw in your day job, buy a boat and sail off into the sun set?

Gemma Rasdall is your spirit animal. The Sydney artist has immersed herself in the life she paints. Her home is a sailboat on Sydney’s Pittwater. Her studio is on Scotland Island, a favoured home of fellow salty seadogs. And she paints on old sailcloth, stretching it into the canvas’s she creates on.

Gemma’s waterscapes full of rich blues and whispy whites are passionately collected. Not only because they are aesthetically pleasing, but also because the sailing portrayal is technically correct.  You can see her work on Instagram at @gemmarasdall

Gemma spoke with 2ser’s Willy Russo for Interview with an artist.
