Kids – Meat free or not to be

It’s one thing to opt for a meatless diet as an adult – but what can vegetarianism mean for growing children? It’s difficult to know what’s healthy and beneficial to feed kids today with so contradictory many dietary paths and options on the market. A growing number of “ethical mummy” blogs have been discussing the controversial topic surrounding the effects and appropriateness of raising your children on a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Could it be that removing all animal related products from a child’s diet can restrict their growth and development as some of these blogs and anti-vegetarians suggest? Or are there ways maintain these animal free dietary restrictions that could actually be beneficial for the health of your children? We had Lousia Matwiejczyk on the line – a nutritionist/dietician and lecturer at Flinders University to find out more.
