Kirli is a Gunai woman, she writes plays, poetry and children’s books. Her picture book The Incredible Freedom Machines was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards. Her poetry collection, Kindred has been shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards

Bindi is eleven years old. She loves art and hockey, even if her team never wins. It’s a new school year and Bindi is looking forward to new teachers and seeing her friends.

But this year the town is in drought and the biggest bushfire Bindi’s dad has ever seen is bearing down on the town
