Much has been made of Russian interference in the 2016 American election, and the spectre of collusion with the campaign of Donald Trump. With the Mueller report finally coming out, it seems the actual level of Russian interference was low but has been considerably amplified by intelligence agencies and the media – to the even greater advantage of the Russians. Dr Allon Uhlmann and Dr Stephen McCombie from the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University reflect on American divisions and if their political crisis could become worse in 2020.
