Litter a Big Cause for Beach Injuries

Our Australian summer sees families venture out to our beaches, but caution should be taken in regards to litter related injuries on our pristine shores.

A collaborative research conducted by Murdoch University, found that beach litter and marine debris have accounted for one fifth of injuries in beach goers, with injury claims rising from 1.2% in 2007, to 2.6% in 2016.

These rising rates beg to question the habits of Australian beach goers, and the corresponding effects on our marine and local wildlife.

To discuss her recent research, we were joined by Professor Marnie Campbell, Chevron Harry Butler Chair in Biosecurity and Environmental Science at Murdoch University.
