Could medicinal cannabis in Australia be around the corner?

Could there soon be a national licensing scheme for the growth and use of medicinal cannabis?

A few days ago, Minister for Health Sussan Ley announced amendments to the Narcotics Drugs Act that would allow the growth of cannabis for medicinal or scientific purposes.

Medicinal cannabis is already allowed for clinical trials and specialists working with certain patient groups – but could this mean the start of widespread medicinal cannabis use for chronic illnesses?
