New Coal Mine Approved in Sydney’s Water Catchment Area

Last week, the Berejiklian government approved an expansion of coal mining in Greater Sydney’s water catchment, ignoring serious concerns from several agencies including WaterNSW. The Government also approved the underground mine before an independent panel released their findings.

Sydney is the only known city in the world permitting mining under its water catchment area. So what are the risks to our water? How are these mines getting approved?
