New High School curriculum upsets Education Minister

Education Minister Alan Tudge has recently been criticising the draft school curriculum proposed by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). In particular he takes aim at the history program for years 7-10, saying that it will teach children to be ashamed of Australia.

Indigenous consultants at ACARA reject the minister’s views. They say that the curriculum is “filling holes” that have been evident in the schooling system. While the ideas taught to the future generation can be a controversial topic, the new proposal hopes to spark discussion about the different facets of Australian history in classrooms.
