This week sees the debut from New York’s Wah Together, featuring members of members of LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Longwave and Electroputas. Sung in both Japanese and English, this is a superb foray into fuzzy disco and rock crossovers,  Standout tracks such as Who we are and Tobu give a sense of the range on display here, but this is an excellent album in it’s entirety, that constantly evoke a smoky haziness and a pent up energy throughout.

Taking an earthier and more psychadelic turn is the latest from Kristine LeschperThe opening, or closing of a door. It taps into elements of folk, disco and classical, the new album from the Georgia-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (and founder of Mothers). Dream pop harmonies ride along in easy unision with tripped out and moody arrangements, that draw on elements of folk, disco and classical music. Highlights include tracks such as Blue and Figure, and I.

Jazz/funk tinged pop sounds combine with an uneasy cosmic aesthetic on Look Alive, the debut from Easy Eyes. A far ranging and interesting album that embraces chaos and experimentation in the arrangements. Recording began in their hometown of Minneapolis during the lockdown and BLM protests of 2020, this is an excellent listen, with standouts being the hazy lower tempo’d cuts Paresthesia and Somewhere overgrown. Keeping in US, the lastest Jimetta Rose album features dusty samples and crunchy beats, delivered with socially conscious lyrics and crafty MPC-style production.

Also spinning from this week on 2SER are new singles from Alex Cameron and central coasters The Machine, the fool and us. Melbourne’s The Stroppies give us a taste of their upcoming album with The Perfect Crime. Pond’s latest, The Leeming is on the playlist as well as some exquisite electronic music courtesy of Lewis Cancut and Sadot. The latest single from Adelaide’s Inkswel (featuring Talib Kweli) is out today as well. Also listen out for a cheeky cover of Beastie Boys by Jeanmarc and Lowbelly, and floating and menacing rock from Hobart’s EWAH and the Vision of Paradise. You can hear all these and many more fine new songs playing across Breakfast, the Daily and Drive on 2SER.
