New NDIS Scheme – More Equitable or Just Cost-Cutting?

There is considerable opposition to the recent proposed changes to the NDIS scheme which is based on independent assessments. Under this scheme, a person with a disability would meet with allied health professionals they don’t know for an evaluation lasting about 3 hours, excluding the opinion of their doctor of choice. Understandingly there has been an alliance formed between 20 disability representatives, providers and advocates who are urging federal politicians to revoke these changes. Professor of Public Service Research  at UNSW, Helen Dickinson was on earlier to discuss the implications of the new scheme.
