Opposition to Rio Tinto Mine Expansion

For community members in the Hunter Valley region, their fight against mining giant Rio Tinto is far from over. Residents of Bulga have been protesting plans to expand the Mount Thorley Warkworth mine for 6 years now. The proposed expansion will see the mine operating for another 21 years. Residents are fearful that the proposed mining sites encroach on high biodiversity areas.

One group leading the resistance against the mine is the Bulga Milbrodale Progress Association. Sean Britten spoke to their president, John Krey.
