Pine Gap: 50 years of secrecy in our own backyard

Pine gap is believed to be one of Australia’s most important intelligence facilities. Located 20 km from Alice springs, the Australian-US military facility is a well kept secret. Not much is known about the site other than it collects a range of signals and provides information on early detected missile launches. The secrecy surrounding Pine gap has sparked many unanswered questions, but what risk does this facility pose to Australians? We were joined by Dr Richard Tanter, Senior Research Associate, Nautilus Institute and Honorary Professor in the School of Political and Social Studies at Melbourne University to find out more.
