George Floyd and Police Brutality Against African Americans

On Wednesday, thousands protested in Minneapolis, Minnesota over the death of African American man George Floyd. A day earlier, Floyd died after he was arrested and restrained unlawfully, with one officer repeatedly kneeling on his neck while he is seen repeatedly saying I can’t breathe.

This latest incident follows a pattern which includes Freddie Gray in New York, 2016, Terrance Crutcher, Michael Brown in 2014 whose death served as the catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement and Eric Garner, among others. In each case, charges have either not been laid or dropped.
