Mapping Townsville Floods in Near Real-Time

By now we have all heard of the record-breaking floods tearing apart North Queensland towns and homes.

With many Australian families threatened, a new breakthrough in satellite radar imaging technology is providing hope for both authorities and residents.

With authorities predicting up to 20,000 homes could be flooded in the coming days if the rain continues to fall in North Queensland, UNSW Sydney researchers are now providing accurate maps of the Townsville flood frontier.

To discuss with us the details of the new research and what this means for mapping future flood movement, we were joined by head researcher of the team at UNSW, Professor Dr. Linlin GE.

To follow the teams mapping progress search the Twitter hashtag #UNSW-GEOS.
