Queensland to Ban Plastic Bags by 2018

In a landmark announcement, the Queensland Government have pledged an outright ban on plastic bags, with the hope to phase them out of circulation by 2018. Plastic bags are one of the most damaging forms of waste on the planet: 3.76 billion are sent to the landfill every year in Australia – taking 1000 years to decompose, one can imagine the damage done to the environment. With Queensland taking the initiative, are other states sure to follow?

The Daily was joined by Dr Mehreen Faruqi Greens NSW MP to discuss what steps need to occur next for NSW to follow suit.
