Report: AI risks Indigenous cultural appropriation

In a new report by Music industry bodies APRA AMCOS and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO) the rise of AI technology poses significant risks to Indigenous cultural and economic wellbeing, with 89% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander songwriters fearing cultural appropriation.

Advocates are urging current government efforts to regulate unauthorised use of Indigenous cultural intellectual property (ICIP) to expand to include all forms of cultural creation.

The Wires Roy Luo asked Nicholas Pickard, the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations at APRA about the potential implications of this.
