Most of us are familiar with the term ‘fake news’ – but could you say the same about retail data?

Over the weekend, Gerry Harvey, co-founder of the great Australian retailer Harvey Norman, says that any connection between the Australian retail scene and “recession” is “fake news”. The reality, he claims, is “totally the opposite” and “it’s a good market at the moment.”

Is it really a good market or is he bluffing in trying to gain back customers in the wake of Amazon’s arrival?
