Rising Tide documentary – Emily Mitchell talks protest, community and making change.

In 2024, Rising Tide led the largest act of civil disobedience for climate justice in Australia’s history. A new documentary, Turning the Ship, tells the story behind the protest.
The climate group’s 2024 People’s Blockade was carried out by over 7,000 volunteers, who came together with kayaks and live music to block the world’s largest coal port. The group’s new documentary, Turning the Ship, reveals the nail-biting battle against the NSW government’s attempts to stop the protest, featuring stories from protesters who took part in the blockade.
This week, protester Emily Mitchell sat down with Tuesday Drive’s Beth Hopkins to discuss the documentary and her experience protesting for climate justice.
Turning the Ship is screening across Australia, including at Marrickville Library on July 3. Visit https://www.risingtide.org.au/film for more information.
