Rock Art as Cultural Artifact of Australian History

Rock art is a huge part of Australian indigenous art and culture, and recently discovered was a piece of art created by the Yaburara people, with US whalers having graffitied over the carvings. It was found on the piece of land now known as the Dampier Archipelago, and can now be used to fill in the history of foreign whaling efforts off the coast of Australia, but also hints at a possible interaction between these foreign parties and the Yaburara people indigenous to Australia. With us to discuss the importance of rock art was Jo Mcdonald, the Director of the Centre for Rock Art Research and Management at the University of Western Australia.
