Run It Straight – Australia’s Deadly New Combat Sport

It started as a school yard game, now it is Australia’s newest viral combat sport. Run It Straight, involves two players running straight at each other as hard as they possibly can to see who remains standing. Neuroscientists have issued ‘grave warning’ about the sports ability to cause significant brain damage and now seemingly deadly consequences.

On Monday night, a 19 year old boy in New Zealand tragically lost his life as a result of head injuries caused by playing the game. As the consequences of this viral trend are now more apparent than ever, how will the community react and will it’s popularity continue to grow?

Doctor Christopher Yorke, an associate lecturer in Sport Management at Western Sydney University, joins us to discuss the implications and threats of this new viral craze and to explain why  running head first into another person may not be the best idea.
