Schooled: Financial Planners of Australia To Require Bachelors Degree at Minimum By 2021

As 2019 begins, so too does a new area for the Financial Planning Sector. By 2022 all planners will require a tertiary qualification in their profession, and it is estimated up to a third of planners may exit the industry instead of adhering to the new regime. But given some of the most educated planners have been the worst behaved, many in the industry are wondering if increased education is the solve this much maligned industry needs, and if more could be done to instil trust in consumers.

We spoke with Ben Marsham, head of Policy and Standards at the FPA (Financial Planners of Australia) as well as two practising planners, Louise Lakomy and Eric Koelmeyer, about what these changes signify for their industry.
