Start Making Sense
Hi! Welcome to Start Making Sense. We are a show about internet culture, power and politics.
What began as a look at the internet under lockdown quickly span out into conspiracies and disinformation campaigns. Now it also covers the wellspring of a global protest movements against racism and injustice. It's fair to say the online world is changing at a dizzying pace. We're hoping it will start making sense soon.
This show is produced on Gadigal and Bidjigal Lands of the Eora Nation and is proudly community radio.
Miles Herbert is a Walkley Award winning journalist and radio producer. His work as a journalist and producer has appeared in The Guardian, but he predominantly works in the community and public radio space. His ongoing research focuses on the role of community radio and podcasting in fostering counter-hegemonic dialogue and identity building in publics shut out from the mainstream media. Cheyne Anderson is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Media Transition at the University of Technology Sydney researching algorithmic accountability. She has producer credits on a number of longform investigative podcasts including The Eleventh and Barranjoey Road which was nominated for a Walkley in 2019. She has also produced news and longform audio for the Guardian and 2SER, as well as documentaries on technology and society for RN's Earshot and as a former producer on 2SER's Think: Digital Futures.
