Social media, anxiety and credit card debt

A lot of us have felt anxious because of social media, but a recent Singaporean study has found a link specifically between posts about shopping, and feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem- which can then lead to excessive spending and even credit card debt. So when we post something about a new outfit we’ve bought, or a luxury meal we had at a fancy restaurant, should we be thinking more carefully about these seemingly innocent posts?

Tess had Dr Hillbun Ho, Senior Lecturer at the Marketing Discipline Group at the UTS Business School in the studio to find out more about the study, what it means for marketing through social media influencers, and what we can do to feel less anxious.
