Somalia calls the UN to take action against UAE military base

The Somalian Government asked the United Nations Security Council to act against the construction of a United Arab Emirates (UAE) military base in Somaliland after a parliament vote. The Government claims that the agreement with the UAE to establish the base in the port city of Berbera is a violation of international law. The base began construction last year which is strategically located close to Yemen, where UAE soldiers have been fighting as a part of a Saudi-led military coalition against Houthi rebels since 2015. So why is the Somalian Government suddenly separating itself from this deal? 2SER was joined by Kevin Boreham from the Australian National University to discuss his views.
