Sydney Metro to reconsider T3 Bankstown Line Construction

With the state election around the corner, promises continue to be made regarding the future of Sydney’s Transport system. The Sydney Metro Project has remained at the forefront of infrastructure talks, with Sydney  expected to have 31 new metro railway stations and a 66 km standalone metro railway system by 2024.

Yet discussion has arisen regarding the importance of a key event in stage 2: The priority of construction for the Sydenham to Bankstown Line.

Recent data has revealed that the T3 Bankstown line has proved only modest growth since 2012, with the Bankstown station itself having slipped to 33rd most popular. These statistics then lead to the question on whether the Bankstown Line should be reconsidered as a high priority for the Sydney Metro.

Matthew Hounsell, a Senior Research Consultant at the Institute for Sustainable Future was on the show to discuss the future of the T3 Line.
