Take Heart: Deadly Heart – Showing the effects of Rheumatic Heart Disease within Indigenous communities

Rheumatic Heart Disease has the biggest negative impact on the life-expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, yet it’s completely preventable.

The documentary TAKE HEART: DEADLY HEART – A JOURNEY TO AN RHD FREE FUTURE is a powerful and riveting documentary that tells the story of how remote Aboriginal communities across the top end of Australia are adopting innovative strategies to eliminate RHD, even as numbers across the country continue to rise. While RHD is a disease that is completely preventable, health system failures, low health literacy, overcrowding and environmental factors are contributing to growing rates of the disease in Australia.

2ser Breakfast was joined by Vicki Wade, one of the producers of the documentary to discuss why Indigenous children are experiencing the highest rates of RHD in the world and what innovative measures remote Aboriginal communities are doing to prevent this disease.

Take Heart: Deadly Heart is premiering in Sydney on Wednesday, March 16th 2022 at the Eternity Playhouse, Darlinghurst Theatre Company.
