Telstra on Marriage Equality

Telstra is in the new again only this time they haven’t managed to spill coffee over one of their servers and somehow knock out service to tens of thousands of customers again.

No, in spite of being last year a supporting partner of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and having voiced their support of marriage equality Chief executive Andrew Penn have said although they continue to support in spirit they will no longer be publically advocating for that position.

Supposedly this is to provide some neutral space in the lead-up to the plebiscite proposed by the Coalition government although some critics are alleging the move has more to do with contracts Telstra has with the Catholic Church in Australia.

We were joined by Rodney Croome, Director of Australian Marriage Equality, to discuss this.
