With a basis on Malaysian cooking with the lightness of Chinese and Indonesian influence, Lakemba-based restaurant Island Dreams Cafe, aims to show a more personal side of Sydney’s cultural landscape. Hailing from Christmas Island, owner Alimah Bilda migrated to Australia in 1973, and opened her restaurant in 1996, which was embraced by the south-western Sydney community with open arms.
