$300M in Budget to the Arts Sector

Following over a year of COVID restrictions and cancellations to many events, the arts sector is in need of strong support. In response to the struggle, the federal government announced a $300 million budget on Tuesday to reinvigorate the arts sector until 2022. For most, including the RISE fund and film industry, the additional support is indeed good news. But for many such as SBS and ABC, the budget will see a decline from the current after next year, the long term unconsidered. Other funds for public services and capital works will also see an increase, but has the government catered for the minor and the complex ecosystem of arts? Professor Jo Caust, Associate Professor and Principal Fellow in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne spoke with us earlier.
