The Rohingya Refugee Crisis

Today marks World Refugee Day. It’s a time to reflect on the triumphs and contributions of refugees to our society, while also acknowledging the ongoing humanitarian crises faced by many refugees around the world, including the Rohingya people.

Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh is the culmination of the persecution of the Rohingya, and is the largest refugee camp in the world. Over a million Rohingya refugees have fled there from genocide in Myanmar, and continue to face trauma.

Former refugee and Rohingya woman Noor Azizah, and former footballer Craig Foster are both refugee advocates currently in Cox’s Bazar. They’re part of a delegation organized by the Refugee Council of Australia, highlighting the Rohingya refugee crisis, and are calling for action. 2SER producer Cody spoke to Noor and Craig about what they’re seeing in Cox’s Bazar, as well as their hopes for the future of the Rohingya and what the international community can do to help.
