TikTok Sexual Violence Day Hoax

Morbid irony has pervaded Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month with a recent disturbing trend on TikTok emerging with a #April24 attracting more than 31.1 million views in which allegedly a group of six men encourage others to commit sexual assault and rape, particularly against women on this date. Although majority of media outlets and investigations have elected to deem this claim fake news because of lack of evidence, this incident is riddled with fear mongering, confusion and questions. We were joined by Dr Bianca Fileborn from the University of Melbourne to discuss with us the impacts of a hoax like this.
