The tiny beads that have become an environmental menace

Microbeads have been making a lot of headlines lately. Personal care products like scrubs and toothpastes use the tiny plastic beads as exfoliators.

Because wastewater plants can’t filter them, they end up in the ocean. As a result of the environmental risk they pose, Woolworths, Coles and Aldi recently banned microbeads in their home-brand products.

Sam spoke to environmentalist Jon Dee founder of Do Something about his campaign to ban the bead. Sam started by asking Jon what happens when the microbeads get to the ocean.
