Turning Off The Taps: Will Cape Town Run Out of Water?

Cape Town is currently in the midst of a one-in-384-year drought, a drought that has left the city in crisis. In a world first, it is predicted that in ten days time, “Day Zero” will hit Cape Town, when engineers in the city turn off the water supply as water in the six-dam reservoir system falls to 13.5% capacity. These events have now also raised questions about the possibilities of a similar event happening here in Australia, where major cities have often struggled with drought. Dr Ian Wright, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Western Sydney University joined us on The Daily to talk about the developing crisis and the steps Australian cities can take to avoid such an event
