Understanding Satanic Panics

In 1980’s America, a cultural fear swept over the nation. Parents worried their children were in danger from a secret satanic conspiracy. Games like Dungeons and Dragons were thought to be connected to evil cults. This panic spread everywhere and caused many people harm through false accusations.

So how did this Satanic Panic begin and why did it spread?

Dr. Michael Barbezat, a Research Fellow at the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry at the Australian Catholic University, joined 2SER to explain this phenomenon.
