Updating Wikipedia’s content on Australian women in the media

2SER FM has been awarded Wikimedia Australia Partner Project funding for 2024-2025. This Partner Project aims to improve the representation of Australian women in media on Wikipedia. The project will update existing pages, identify gaps, and create new entries for women journalists, commentators, and experts. As part of the project we will be connecting existing pages to relevant categories, and creating new entries to boost the visibility of women in journalism and broadcasting. Importantly, we’re adding verified references and building new Wikipedia content so that casual readers as well as international experts can learn more about what Australian women in the media have and can do.
On March 8 on 2SER from 8am to 10am we gave occasional updates about our progress, lead by Australian Media expert and Fourth Estate host Tina Quinn. Supported by super incredible Wikipedia contributor and expert Annie Reynolds, who regularly dedicates countless hours making updates herself, as well as teaching others how to update Wiki and ultimately make sure there is equality on the site. Also helping us remotely is Wikimedia superstar Alice Woods.

Also….  keep your eyes and ears peeled for an upcoming ‘edit-a-thon’ in April, where we invite volunteers to get involved and help up make sure Women, non binary and other underrepresented people are accurately included on Wikipedia.
