What ‘hazardous surf’ really means, and how to stay safer

More and more people are being injured or drowned on a day out at the beach. Just this Easter, there were a shocking seven drownings along the Australian coast.

Sam Cornell, from the Beach Safety Research Group at the University of NSW, is a researcher looking at dangerous waves, and how we can better educate people and prevent drownings.

He joined us on the line at the Thursday Daily this morning, to talk about how hazardous surf behaves, and why current warnings don’t cut through.
