Why Do We All Bake in Lockdown?

What is the cause of our sudden urge to whip out the baking tools when we are stuck in lockdown? From banana bread to sourdough, to even slime — many of us have become baking experts with our newfound free time. 

There’s no doubt we have time to spare, so why do we decide to spend it by perfecting our recipes? Well, it turns out there are a number of psychological and therapeutic benefits to baking — including improved self-esteem due to increased concentration, coordination, and confidence. It can help ease our stress and anxiety, acting as an effective coping mechanism to distract us from the chaos of coronavirus.
