How will Australian hospitals cope with an ageing population?

For most of us, a hospital stay at some point in our lives is unfortunately inevitable, and it’s rarely a pleasant experience, and that’s even before you get to bed shortages, overworked nurses and doctors and of course, hospital food. With a growing and ageing population, however, the problems facing our hospitals are looking like they’re only going to get worse. To discuss these issues and possible solutions, Sean Britten spoke to Professor Stephen Duckett, Director of the Health Program at the Grattan Institute and Professor of Health Policy at La Trobe University.
