Will micro-parties play a big role in the 2016 federal election?

With the federal election less than a month away, the back and forth between parties and election promises are heating up.

The latest Newspoll found Labor and the Coalition are tied 50-50 in two party preferred terms.

Micro-parties and independents have also gained popularity while the Coalition, Labor and Greens have each suffered a one-point fall in their primary vote.

So will micro parties play a big role in the 2016 federal election?

We were joined by Peter Chen, senior lecturer in Australian politics, public policy and media at the University of Sydney, to find out more.
