Creating employment opportunities on World Down Syndrome Day

GG’s Flowers is a social enterprise based in Canberra that’s creating employment opportunities for people with special needs. Established five years ago, the florist is a local favourite now employing over 12 employees with special needs, who hand deliver flowers with a hug. From the family’s backyard garden shed to a shop front, GG’s Flowers serves as an example to other local businesses and organisations about how to provide safe and inclusive working environments for people with disabilities.

On World Down Syndrome Day, Nic was joined by Nipuni Wijewickrema, the founder of GG’s Flowers and 2016 ACT Young Person of the Year, to chat more about the advantages of employing people with the condition.
