What’s Happening in Qatar?

In the recent weeks the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have severed their diplomatic ties with Qatar which has resulted with access to trucks, planes and ships being cut off. This move has come after rising tensions between Qatar and the UAE due to Qatar’s support of terrorism that it denies. As a result of this split Qatar Airways has been denied flying to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE. In addition, the 2.24 million people living in Qatar are in fear that food shortages could occur since Qatar relies on its neighbours for supplies however the sea, air and land bans prevent food being supplied. So far it seems like the Middle East, especially Qatar is in chaos. The Daily was joined by Dr Rajat Ganguly, Academic Chair in Security, Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies at Murdoch University to discuss the chaos in Qatar.
