More work needed to help GPs educate patients about healthy choices

Almost 2 in 3 Australian adults are overweight or obese, according to the Australia Bureau of Statistics.

The rates of obesity are compounded by where you live and your socio economic status. This is because of your health literacy, which is your ability to find and understand information about health.

We look at the interaction between socio-economic status, health literacy and obesity. We also explore the role GPs play, as a frontline health service, in educating and helping their patients to beat the bludge.

Speakers:

Elizabeth Denney-Wilson – Associate Professor, Faculty of Health, University of Technology Sydney.

Mark Harris – Professor of General Practice at the University of New South Wales, Director of COMPaRE.

Dr Brian Morton – Chair of the council of General Practice, Australian Medical Association.
