Is China a ‘Global Threat to Human Rights’?

Opening with a damning report on China, the Human Rights Watch released its 652-page annual report during a press conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York last week. This years report opens with the executive director of the Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth, describing China as a “global threat to human rights”. Roth even goes on to say that China may “portend a dystopian future in which no-one is beyond the reach of Chinese censors, and an international human rights system so weakened that it no longer serves as a check on government repression”.
