Mental Illness in the Workplace
Recently, the state government released the most comprehensive research ever conducted about mental health in NSW workplaces, heralding statistics from health experts, who found that close to 1 in 5 employers had only a basic awareness of mental health issues and viewed mental health as an individual’s responsibility. Construction, scientific and technical sectors were listed as the worst performing industries. The research will inform the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Summit planned for November, attended by Australia’s leading mental health experts business leaders, union representatives and government officials. Jim Kelly, Director of Health and Return to Work at SafeWork NSW, who aims to prevent injury and illness in the workplace joined the Daily to discuss this and more.
