Cultural heritage in the context of urban planning in Sydney – what’s happening?
Most of us are probably familiar with the historical and cultural significance of places like The Rocks, Hyde Park Barracks and the QVB Building in Sydney. More recently we’ve seen the controversy concerning the ‘brutalist’ Sirius building in Sydney, and its possible demolition, threatening our links to the character and qualities of times gone by.
Living history is all around us in many forms, but when it comes to the built environment, especially across Sydney City and its fringes, the survival of our cultural heritage can face enormous challenges.
